At 1:30 pm, the Vice President was called on by Dr. Sharat Varma at the Quezon City Reception House. Dr. Varma is a Pediatric Hepatology Consultant at Max Hospital in New Delhi. He discussed various liver transplant operations that he has performed n indigent patients from all over the world. He is meaning to find a way to make liver transplants in the Philippines as accessible as in India, with the help of Mr. Rex Daryanan, President of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).
At 5:00 pm, the Vice President attended the 27thAnniversary and 14thInstallation of Officers and Directors and Induction of New Members of Zonta Club of Metro Rizal in EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, Mandaluyong City. Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the legal, political, economic, educational, health, and professional status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.
In her speech, the Vice President tackled the different acts of discrimination women are facing up to this day and that we must continue to uplift each other. “Witnessing their struggles opened my eyes to the bigger picture: the root of the problem is economic dependence. True independence can only be achieved when women are economically empowered. When they are free from self-doubt, they will be brave enough to go through the process of emancipation from those who would seek to use them and control them.”
