[at Quezon City Reception House]
In a recorded video message released Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, Vice President Leni Robredo announced the 12th member of the her and Senator Kiko Pangilinan’s senatorial line-up for the upcoming 2022 elections—Attorney Sonny Matula of Labor Party Philippines.
In her message, Robredo vouched for Matula’s integrity and clean track record.
“Malinaw ang track record ni Attorney Sonny sa paglaban para sa karapatan ng mga manggagawang Pilipino. Humarap siya sa mga malalaking korporasyon, na ang tanging sandata ay paninindigan at husay sa abogasya. Isinusulong niya ang karapatan ng mga manggagawa—isang adbokasiya na matagal na rin nating ipinaglalaban bago pa man ako pumasok sa pulitika. Bilang labor advocate, sigurado akong ipaglalaban niya kung ano ang tama, mabuti, at makatarungan, hanggang dulo,” she said.
Last October 15, VP Leni and Senator Pangilinan, accompanied by their senatorial slate’s campaign manager Senator Franklin Drilon, introduced the first 11 candidates in their line-up, including former senator Sonny Trillanes, Senator Leila de Lima, Senator Risa Hontiveros, former congressman Teddy Baguilat, human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, and lawyer-author Alex Lacson; as well as five guest candidates, namely re-electionists Senators Richard Gordon, Migz Zubiri and Joel Villanueva, former vice president Jejomar Binay, and Sorsogon Governor Chiz Escudero.
