Vice President Leni Robredo was among top government officials who took part in the celebration of the 241st anniversary of independence of the United States of America, held in Makati on Thursday night.
VP Leni was received by US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim and his wife, Jae Eun Chung, in the gathering at the Makati Shangri-la, just after the US Independence Day on July 4.
She joined other officials of the Philippine government, including Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo, and Senators Franklin Drilon, Risa Hontiveros, and JV Ejercito.
The event was also attended by members of the diplomatic corps, among them Korean Ambassador Kim Jae-shin, British Ambassador Asif Ahmad, Canadian Ambassador John Holmes, and Timor-Leste Ambassador Juvêncio Martins; officials and staff of the US Embassy; representatives from international organizations, civil society organizations, and members of the private sector; and other invited guests.
In his toast, US Ambassador Kim said his country is committed to helping its long-time ally, the Philippines, amid the ongoing clashes in Marawi City.
