With ‘evidence’ of ‘Marcos-specific’ cheating
VP Leni says Bongbong out to ‘revise’ story of 2016 polls
Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday said former Senator Bongbong Marcos is out to “revise” the story of the 2016 elections by presenting ballot images that allegedly show that cheating was done specifically to ensure his loss.
VP Leni noted that such allegations are premature given that the recount has yet to begin, with retrieval of ballot boxes still ongoing, and so far only in her home province, Camarines Sur, one of the three pilot provinces that the defeated vice presidential candidate identified in his election protest.
Parang nire-revise din iyong kuwento,” she told reporters in Naga City.
So saan galing iyong ebidensya, hindi pa nga tapos iyong Camarines Sur, hindi pa nga tapos iyong pag-transport?” she added.
The Vice President reiterated anew that the speedy resolution would be in her best interest, since it would put an end to Marcos spreading lies about the 2016 polls.
She has repeatedly said that she is confident that the results of the recount will only match the original count in May 2016.
Earlier, Romulo Macalintal, VP Leni’s lead counsel for the case, belied the allegations made by Marcos, insisting that the former senator is only “fishing for evidence” and is the one afraid of the upcoming recount.
Kasi, ang kaniyang ginawa, recount of ballots. Sa lahat ng election protest, magbuhat pa noong 2010 hanggang sa kasulukuyan, walang nanalo sa recount of ballots,” he said in a radio interview.
“Natatakot na ang kampo ni Mr. Marcos sapagkat alam niya na walang patutunguhan ang kanyang protesta,” Macalintal added, also asking the defeated candidate not to use his client for political ambition in the 2019 senatorial polls.
