As part of its social service and disaster response, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) has extended aid to communities struck by recent tragedies across different parts of the Philippines.
The OVP-Panay and Negros Islands Satellite Office distributed financial assistance and food bags to families of those who died in an accident along the National Highway in Barangay Bulwang, Mabinay, Negros Oriental. The incident, which occurred on February 21, killed 15 people after a truck accidentally plunged into a ravine.
The OVP conducted its assistance activities in Barangay Solonggon, La Libertad, Negros Oriental on March 7, with support from the Barangay Solonggon Council and other volunteers. Relief was provided through the OVP's Burial Assistance Program.
The OVP also responded to a fire incident, which occurred on March 7, 2024 at the Joaquin, Bautista, and Mariategue Compound, Barangay Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
The OVP Disaster Operations Center (DOC) distributed Relief Bags to over 900 families affected by the blaze. The relief distribution was held at the Alabang Elementary School and Pedro E Diaz High School on March 20, 2024.
The OVP also promptly provided assistance to more than 600 families whose homes were razed by fire in Barangay 105, Tondo, Manila, on March 26. The OVP DOC visited Aroma Street in the said barangay, distributing relief bags to 652 families affected by the blaze.
In another initiative, the OVP's Kalusugan Food Truck served breakfast to fire volunteers in San Bartolome, Novaliches, Quezon City, on March 20. Led by the OVP DOC, a total of 83 fire responders were provided with a breakfast meal consisting of rice, bangus fillet, omelette, and hot coffee. No family was affected by the fire that hit a commercial warehouse in the area.
