In its ongoing environmental efforts, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) - Panay and Negros Islands Satellite Office (PNISO) conducted tree planting activities across the region.
As part of the OVP's PagbaBAGo: A Million Trees and Learners Campaign, the PNISO, on February 9, organized simultaneous tree planting activities throughout the Panay Islands. The tree planting activities occurred in Barangay Ponong Pequeño in Dueñas and Sitio Dawata, Barangay Catan-agan, San Enrique town. The OVP planted 10,000 seedlings of fruit-bearing trees, including catmon, rambutan, jackfruit, and coffee.
Participating in the activity were the Local Government Units of Dueñas and San Enrique, the Department of Agriculture, the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Fire Protection, barangay officials of Ponong Pequeño, Dueñas Environmental Protection Association, Salam Police Advocacy Group, and Dueñas Responders.
Continuing its efforts, the PNISO, on February 17, planted 5,000 mangrove propagules along the coast of Barangay Tomongtong in Enrique B. Magalona, Negros Occidental, providing coastal protection and enhancing the scenery.
Joining the effort were the E.B Magalona Local Government Unit, officials from Barangay Tomongtong, E.B Magalona Elem. School, Women's Association, Community Information and Support group, and the LGBT Community.
This initiative builds upon PNISO's previous endeavor, where 3,000 mangroves were planted along the coast of Barangay Su-ay in Himamaylan, Negros Occidental, on August 25, 2023.
