Serbisyo Para Kay Juana, Kasama si Juan

Throughout March, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) celebrated women by launching the "Serbisyo Para Kay Juana, Kasama si Juan," an outreach program led by the OVP Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) as part of its commitment to gender equality.

Guided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the OVP staff visited and recognized residents of the Sanctuary Center in Mandaluyong City on March 19. The program started with a solemn mass, followed by various activities and services including volleyball games, haircut services, makeup stations, Zumba sessions, and more.

Established in 1988, the DSWD Sanctuary Center is a haven for women diagnosed with mental conditions. Often, these women are abandoned and left without loved ones. The Sanctuary Center believes in the value and dignity of every individual. It aims to improve women's self-esteem, provide opportunities for self-reliance, and prepare them for reintegration into the community.

A total of 182 residents live in the facility.

With OVP's Gender and Development (GAD) initiative, GFPS also led Women’s Month celebrations at the OVP Central Office. Various discussions were held for staff, such as Gender Talks covering RA 9710 Magna Carta of Women, RA 11313 Safe Spaces Act, and RA 9262 Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004.

OVP staff were empowered through Coffee Sessions, panel talks sharing personal experiences to provide lessons and guidance to many. #PurpleFridays were also observed, with staff wearing purple to support the celebration.

The OVP stands in solidarity with the annual Women's Month celebration and the ongoing fight for gender equality and everyone's rights.
