VP Sara visits Davao de Oro evacuees

Vice President Sara Duterte visited an evacuation center for residents affected by a landslide in Mawab, Davao de Oro, on Thursday, February 8.

At least 24 families are temporarily seeking shelter at the Nueva Visayas Gymnasium.

Local officials present briefed the Vice President about the ongoing rescue and retrieval operations for victims.

The Vice President also talked to Merafe, a mother of three children, who tearfully recounted their ordeal during the tragedy. Merafe’s husband remains missing.

The Vice President reiterated the importance of heeding directives from local authorities, particularly in times of crisis, with safety being the utmost priority. She also recommended that local authorities provide stress debriefing sessions for the affected families, particularly the youth.

The Office of the Vice President’s Kalusugan Foodtruck also served food for the evacuees.

This mobile kitchen, part of her office's initiative to combat child malnutrition, also serves as disaster relief during emergencies.

The Vice President also commended the Philippine Marine Corps Reservists for their voluntary service in cooking and preparing meals for the evacuees.

She also thanked everyone involved in the relief and rescue operations — for being united in times of crisis.
